Happy New Year everyone! I guess I should be making a list of resolutions, but I know what I have to do. Get in shape and get back on my feet fiancially. Pretty straightforward.
I spent the entire holidays working. My kids were all over, from New York to Hawaii, so I had nothing else to do. Since I’m so focused on getting my business back on track, I was happy to have days and days of nothing to do but sit in front of a computer. I put up a website, my first, by myself. I can’t believe I did it! I used xSitePro www.xsitepro.com and I’m convinced that it’s the easiest web building software out there. If a 65 yr old grandma can do it, anyone can. Now I’m learning how to get it to the search engines.
Listen up all you people out there who are hurting because of the real estate mess and the economy in general. Given the time, you can figure out this internet thing and how to earn a living using it. Whether it’s selling something or getting people to come to your business, you can do it. Finding time - there’s the problem. In Los Angeles no one has time for anything. I don’t know what everyone is doing.
If you want to check out my site, which has nothing to do with this blog, you can find it at www.4daymortgage.com.
I look toward tomorrow with some dread. I have to decide if I’m going to keep my office or give it up, and I have to make a decision what I’m going to do with all the rental property I own. The mortgages are larger than the values now, and it costs me a lot of money each month to keep them going. At this moment, my credit is perfect. It will be very difficult to make a choice which could decrease my credit score by a couple of hundred points. I’ve always had a beef with a system that punishes people who have financial problems by charging them higher interest rates. Who knew I would be within days of being one of them? Some very heavy decisions, but I will not allow myself to be emotional about it and I’ll try to come up with a solution.
As far as giving up my office, I like working out of my home and it makes my dogs, Marcello and Tia happy. It’s a bit cramped because I was also in the middle of a remodel so I don’t have a lot of extra room. I’m using the dining room for a home office, but I get more done from home. The question is, what do I do with all the “stuff” from my 8 room office, and what do I do if clients want to come and see me? So, a lot of decisions to make, when all I really want to be doing is putting together loans.
Right now, I think it’s good that I don’t have a life. My business will recover much faster that way. But I’m going to make a huge effort to not always talk about work here. I’ve become extremely boring and narrow, even to myself.
If you’ve made it this far, I hope you come back. See if I figure it all out.
